Even this is the first post since December (AUCH!), I figured it is worth putting it here to advertise for our end-of-the-year Math Circle “Smoothy” Social. Yes, we have been meeting every week this semester….
This week’s Math Circle (Wed, 5/18) will be our last meeting until next Fall.
For this last meeting, we are inviting YOU (Math Circle students and parents) to come (this Wed, 7:30-8:20am) for a Math Circle “Smoothy” Social and have some fun revisiting the things our kids learned during this past year as well as plan for the future. Whether your child attended one circle only or every circle this past year, everybody is more than welcomed!
We will not have a full-blown breakfast (like we did last December), but we plan to have fruits & yogurt (which may make great smoothies), so if you would like to bring and share some FRESH fruits (thoroughly washed please!), let me know (ideally) by tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5pm. It’s OK to just show up, even if you don’t have time to grab some fresh fruits along the way … Also, please let us if your child has any allergies to fruits … [Everybody else who is not a Math Circle parent is welcome to come without bringing anything ...]
Just a personal thought about this past year’s amazing experience running the Math Circle. Math is important and is all around us. It is here to stay with your kids for the rest of their lives. We all hope our kids develop a positive attitude towards it early on (that is now!). We understand that each child has different perceptions and needs when it comes to Math, and that makes it challenging to strike the right tone that fits everybody in a classroom environment, or even in a Math Circle. But the fundamental belief remains: the only way to find the beauty of the language of math is to accept it with its rigor and connect to it as a very personal experience.
If our Math Circle helped provide this kind of experience even by a tiny bit, but especially if it did not, Natalia and I would like to know. We are planning to have an even richer and more personalized experience next year, so your thoughts on this are also more than welcomed.
Please join us celebrate the end of the first year-long Math Circle at Foothills!
